Taxi for Austrie!!
Sunshine, laughter, and a fair bit of sweating—it could only be an ACGA summer Major! On Friday 5th July, the African Caribbean Golf Association rolled into Hendon Golf Club for the fourth Major of our 2025 season. With temperatures soaring to 28°C and barely a breeze in sight, it was a test of stamina as much as skill. Thankfully, Hendon rose to the occasion with pristine fairways, smooth greens, and a layout that kept everyone on their toes—particularly the tricky Par 3s, which gave no freebies to even our most seasoned players.
But through the heat and hustle, one man rose to the top...
🏆 Congratulations to Stuart Austrie, who brought his A-game and took home first place with a composed and confident round. Cool under pressure (and under the sun), Stuart earned his first Major win of the year—well deserved!
Here’s how the top of the leaderboard shook out:
Final Standings:
1st - Stuart Austrie
2nd - Gerry Anderson
3rd - Hector James
4th - Ossie Roberts (yes, the name Robert's appears once again on the leaderboard!)
5th - Neil Jarrett
And the fun didn’t stop there...
On-course prizes and bragging rights went to:
* Nearest the Pin: Trevor Lammy – surgical precision!
* Nearest the Pin in 2: Hector James – again, sharp as ever.
* Longest Drive: Richard “Course Record” Payne – the name says it all.
* Best Guest: Damian Queva – a familiar face who brought his usual flair and finesse.
We also had the pleasure of welcoming Gilbert Stowe, joining us for a sun-drenched round filled with great banter and good vibes.
A highlight of the day? Once again, the return of the infamous "Blob Money" jar. For every hole where someone didn’t register a Stableford point, a £1 fine was gladly donated to our nominated charities. By day’s end, the fund was over £200 richer—proof that even your worst holes can help make a difference!
As always, the ACGA spirit was alive and well - competitive but supportive, full of jokes, encouragement, and that special community atmosphere you just don’t find anywhere else.
Next Stop: Westerham Golf Club – Friday 2nd August 2025. Expect rolling fairways, tight scoring, and maybe a little revenge for those who fell foul of Hendon’s Par 3s. Mark it in the diary—you won’t want to miss it.
Until then, stay cool, keep the swing smooth, and remember: blobs might hurt your card, but they help the cause!
